E-mail marketing, could it work for your business?

Email Marketing - is it right for your business?

Email Marketing - is it right for your business?

Sending out targeted emails to our clients existing customer bases is something we have been working with for many years. However it is not quite as simple as you might think because all addresses have to be monitored for opt outs and graded for quality purposes to ensure that people are only receiving communications they are really interested in. As well as this we need to ensure that we fully comply with the Electronic Communications Act and Data Protection legislation, making sure that every email we send on our client’s behalf meets all the correct criteria.

We often start this process by mining existing customer and contact databases. We can also do activities such as pulling out email addresses of all people you have ever received an email from in your email software. Having done this we then can quickly and effectively put these contacts in to different categories depending on the type of message they are likely to find valuable. For example you can send a targeted email reminding past clients why they used your services or bought your products in the first place or more general awareness email to others.

At all times we work hard to ensure that the mails we send out are actively welcomed by the receivers, unwelcome spam does no one any favours!

Web Marketing Successes

A Bottle of Dom Perignon 1999, anything to celebrate?

A Bottle of Dom Perignon 1999, anything to celebrate?

Many people are surprised to hear that at least half our work currently is promoting and managing existing websites, not only building new ones, we have some stunning successes.

Currently our clients Boutique Perfumes are first page on Google UK for the single keyword “Perfumes” after just six months promotion, Good Wine Online are page 1 of Google UK for “red wine” and Network Yacht Brokers Conwy are page one for of Google UK “Jeanneau Boats” (over 1 Billion Euros worth of Jeanneau yachts were sold in 2008 worldwide!). As you can see we are quite able to get these high results for our clients in some of the most competitive arenas.

All this leads to more many more sales and a compelling return on investment. Currently we are promoting other terms as varied as electric motors, hotel accommodation, hose testing and luxury yachting holidays.

We would be particularly interested to talk to any already successful offline niche retailers who are looking to sell their products online or have tried in the past to sell online but unsuccessfully. Possible themes we have currently that would fit well into our portfolio are – industrial equipment, machinery, clothing and luxury goods.

minisite Platform Development Progress

Many of you will know that for some time we have been working on our new web design and web marketing platform system minisite™. Late last year we were successful in securing significant grant assistance towards this innovative technology from the Welsh Assembly Government. This recognition of the potential of this truly innovative system is allowing us to make the software more robust, increase the features and help market minisite™. This will lead to higher levels of adoption, better service and ultimately more business activity and jobs in North Wales for our customers.
Additional features – added this month are XML based backups which allow an additional level of safeguards for minisite™ customers. Customers can now backup their entire site and save this to their own computer. It means if they need to revert to the site at an earlier date they will be able to do so. As a development tool it allows us to quickly and effectively copy useful elements from one site to another reducing development times and costs to clients.

We have been listening to our minisite™ customers who have given us feedback on ease of carrying out web page updates using minisite™. A few people have struggled with some of the more advanced features and as a result we have simplified much of the management system to allow the vast majority of tasks to be done in “simple mode” With minisite™ we are committed to delivering the “World’s Simplest and Most Effective Web Design, Management and Marketing System” and thank all our customers for being the essential element in achieving this with their valuable feedback.

We hope to be actively looking for partners for the web directory system and minisite™ sales mid 2009 and will be letting you know how you can get involved as a partner or referrer very soon.

The National Zoo of Wales – Welsh Mountain Zoo, Colwyn Bay

We’d like to congratulate one of our clients, the Welsh Mountain Zoo, for being awarded the honour of being “The National Zoo of Wales”. The status awarded late in 2008 is hoped to increase awareness of the Zoo’s charity & conservation work. It’s also a massive coup for North Wales, to have a very high-profile national instution in Colwyn Bay will also help improve tourism. To help obtain the status, the Welsh Mountain Zoo required their website to be bilingual. As it is built on the minisite system, this was easily done using our bilingual site features, what is more the site is incredibly easy to manage with both languages, only needing to update images once. The results you can see at the website.

Hire Site and Software in Mochdre

An interesting project we completed last year was Hydrohire, a company based in Mochdre that specialize in pressure testing equipment for large water pipes. They required a piece of software that determine if a water pipe has a leak before commissioning, which we delivered in both an offline, .NET and XML based programme and an online PHP/MySQL version, so that it could be used if it was connected to the Internet or not.

Secondly they also wanted a site where companies could go and order the equipment needed, either to hire for a weekly charge or to buy outright. Using standard, off the shelf e-commerce packages, we were able to modify it to allow both hiring and purchasing to be made.

Aber Roof Trusses – Flintshire

In the Autumn of 2008, we worked with Aber Roof Trusses in Flintshire to create a website that will stand out from other construction firms. Due to the technical nature of their product, we created a website that explains some of the terminology used by the company, so potential customers aren’t confused with phrases used. We also carried out a small bit of web marketing work for the company, and in the short time we have been promoting the site we have achieved great rankings for relevant phrases in google UK such as “North Wales Roof Trusses” “Chester Roof Truss” & “Timber Roof Truss Wales”.

Your Personal Organization for 2009

Want to make 2009 the year you really got organized? Well here are a few tips from Paul, with a modicum of gadgetry thrown in. I’m in the fortunate position to gain ideas from some really great clients as I go about my business and I’m going to pass the best of them on to you!

Hardback Folder

Hardback Folder

First things first, forget the gadgets, there is nothing like a pencil and paper to really get your ideas out and get productive! Keep that sharp pencil and hardback lined book close to hand at all times to collect all those loose ideas and to dos, what David Allen calls clean edges in his “Getting Things Done” book, otherwise known as GTD . Record meeting notes in the back of the book if this fits with your systems. If you really want to get into this GTD stuff you can look at David Allen’s site or Merlin’s site at 43Folders, there are more ideas than you can shake a sharp pencil at!

OK, now let’s look at how IT can help us. You want to keep the emails, contacts and appointments all in a single unified system, whether in the office or out on the move, but what to use? My advice is to go with something that will synchronize effectively with MS Outlook (Version 2003 +).

Outlook proves its worth time and time again as a lightweight database, dealing with all the day to day information stuff you need to collect. When it comes to email marketing you will already have a great web ready database ready to work with. I would favour an iphone/pocket pc/blackberry teamed up with a hosted exchange server solution available for around £10 per month.
